Our Ethics

Force Free Training

At CBS force free, fear free training is our training method of choice. Our scientifically endorsed, reward-based methods are suitable for all members of the community including the young, the elderly and those with a disability. Usually, all family members are encouraged to attend classes, however, some restrictions do apply.

Highly Advocated

Force-free training is advocated by the RSPCA, the Australian Veterinary Association, the Pet Professional Guild Australia, the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (Australia) and a multitude of international animal behaviour organisations including the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, Pet Industry Advocacy International and the Pet Professional Guild (International).

Canine Behavioural School Inc is on the RSPCA SA force-free trainers list.

Force Free Training is

…rewarding the behaviours you want rather than punishing the ones you do not want. It is encouraging the dog to get it right as opposed to punishing him every time he gets it wrong. It is helping him to understand what is required of him, and then reinforcing that behaviour so that he is happy to repeat it. It is not punishing him for getting it wrong and making him worried about doing it wrong again.” (Husein 2006).

Industry Advocacy

Canine Behavioural School and its volunteers are passionate about industry advocacy, and support the view that the pet industry worldwide needs increased regulation, oversight, and adherence to policies, procedures and best practices.

CBS is a member of Pet Industry Advocacy International (PIAI), which aims to professionalise the pet industry through ethics, consumer protection and professional competency.
